Voter Rights: What You Need To Know

We’re educating our members on how to navigate new, restrictive laws designed to make voting more difficult, just in time for November elections.

When working people can’t elect the candidates that best serve their needs, communities begin to change. Cuts in health care and education become common, and the wealthy benefit from tax cuts and greater overall prosperity.

Unfortunately, the General Assembly recently passed a restrictive voting law that:

• Cut a week off of early voting
• Eliminated same-day registration
• Allows for higher limits on campaign contributions

No matter where you reside in North Carolina, these changes will undoubtedly make voting much more challenging. In turn, it will become increasingly difficult to pass legislation that serves the best interests of you and your community.

From now until November, we’re helping our members navigate these new, restrictive laws to ensure that everyone is able to vote in November.

Medicaid Expansion: Fighting For Health Care

Despite Gov. McCrory blocking a Medicaid expansion that would have benefited 319,000 people, we’re committed to giving our members access to affordable health care in North Carolina, by any means possible.

More than 300,000 North Carolinians were denied health care by Gov. McCrory, but you still may be eligible. Affordable health care is a right that all Americans deserve, and we’re working hard to educate  members like you on eligibility requirements for access to pre-existing Medicaid services.

But the fight doesn’t end there. We know that the uninsured are susceptible to serious health conditions and more likely to die from preventable diseases. Because of this, we’re still fighting for the 319,000 North Carolinians who may benefit from Medicaid expansion.

As we’ve said, we’re committed to giving our members access to affordable health care in North Carolina, by any means possible.
