Know your voting rights! Here's how the new rules will affect you:

1. Election officials will no longer ask you to present and ID to vote*
2. Register the same-day during the Early Voting period.
3. Pre-register if you will be 18 by election day.
4. You can vote outside of your precinct on Election Day as long as you are in the correct county.
5. The new Early Voting period begins Thursday, OCtober 20th, providing voters an additional weekend to vote.

*Except for voters who use same-day registration or whose registrations can not be verified.

 

 The 2016 election is approaching. Before heading to the polls, Working America wants to make sure you have all of the information you need.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 8.

In North Carolina, polls are open on Election Day from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Working families in North Carolina have been urging Rep. David Price to oppose the bill that would fast track trade deals like the secret Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Holding up signs for the congressman to read, his constituents urged him to oppose a bill that would make it easier to pass deals like the secret TPP, which would undermine American jobs.

Greensboro’s city workers. We are the people that make Greensboro work. We keep our streets clean and safe. We maintain our parks and trails. We run our libraries and clean our public buildings. In short, we keep Greensboro humming.

Despite our hard work, not all city workers in Greensboro are able to make ends meet. Some city workers are finding it hard to bring home enough to cover the bills and raise their families.

The Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) is a trade deal that protects the profit margins of large corporations not working Americans. It could affect government decisions that would, in turn, affect public health as private investors could sue the government if their profit margins were threatened. Read more >>>

All voters need to pressure our elected leaders, because our health should not be a partisan issue. The overall health of North Carolina is in the bottom third of states in the U.S., and expanding Medicaid is a fairly inexpensive way to improve it. Read more >>>

Working American members in Greensboro, North Carolina, took action against a State Senate Republican-led plan to disenfranchise local voters by restructuring the city council and redrawing district lines.

N.C. Senate Bill 36, proposed by state Republicans, would remove at-large representation for the citizens, create seven redrawn council districts, and make the mayor a nonvoting member of the council. Local city leaders have called the plan an attempt to “to diminish the voice of the citizens of Greensboro”.

On May 15, N.C. House Speaker Thom Tillis and other legislators created restrictive rules for protesters that undermine the First Amendment rights of all North Carolinians.

With provisions that include not allowing groups of 200 or more to reserve space at the south entrance of the State Legislative Building, and prohibiting loud clapping, singing or shouting, the new rules are nothing short of a thinly veiled attempt to undermine the momentum of the successful Moral Monday protests.

But we’re fighting back to ensure the new rules don’t strip North Carolinians of their right to free speech.
